There is a $200 per person discount for Kilimanjaro climbs during the low season (April, May and November). However, due to the high probability of rainy conditions, only experienced backpackers should consider climbing in these months. Additionally, during the rainy months some routes are closed.

ITINERARY:

Day 1:  You will start with breakfast and thereafter Kilimanjaro briefing. After the briefing you will be picked up and transferred to the Kilimanjaro National Park gate where you will register, and commence the climb with your guides and porters. Your first day takes you through the rain forest to the Machame Camp located at an altitude of 9000 feet (2800 meters). Here you will rest and enjoy a relaxing dinner.

Day 2:  After breakfast you will leave the glades of the rain forest and follow an ascending path for about 3 hours on the open moorlands to the Shira camp located at an altitude of 12,000 feet (3800m). Here you will enjoy views of the summit cone and the remains of the Shira volcano and plateau (3 hrs).

Day 3:  You will hike for around 4 hours through moorland until you ascend past Lava Tower and remains of Lava Tower hut. Before you get to the slope at the foot of the arrow glacier your team will turn right and descend the Barranco valley to the Barranco hut. [6 hours]

Day 4:  On this day you will start with a leisurely breakfast at Barranco Camp. The day is spent acclimatizing to altitude in preparation for the summit. Trek to Karanga Valley with picnic lunch en route. Dinner and overnight will be at at Karanga Valley Camp. [3 hours]

Day 5:  After breakfast at Karanga Valley Camp. You will proceed to ascend to Barafu Camp. Picnic lunch en route. Dinner and overnight at Barafu Camp. (4600m).  [3 hours]

Day 6:  You will have to make an early rise just after midnight for trekking to the summit. Your team will arrive at Stella Point (5,735m) in time for the sunrise. Then you will proceed to Uhuru Peak (5895m). After some relaxation you will descend to Barafu Hut for overnight.

Day 7:  After breakfast it is time to commence the descent to Mweka Camp. Picnic lunch and breakfast en route. Celebratory dinner and overnight at Mweka Camp (3,100m). [12 hours].

Day 8:  Breakfast and continue your descent to Mweka gate and collect your certificates for successful trek. You will then be transferred to Arusha.
